Article excerpt

With downsizing and budgetary cutbacks affecting almost every business sector, security professionals must learn to handle change in their business. Security practitioners attending the September 20 luncheon at the 40th Annual ASIS Seminar and Exhibits in Las Vegas will get some tips on the topic from speaker Janet Lapp, RN, PhD. Lapp's program, "Plant Your Feet in Mid-Air," will focus on the best ways to deal with an evolving workplace environment.

Lapp is currently president and chief executive officer of the Centre for Leadership Development International, a California-based leadership development and communications firm. She uses her knowledge of the mind and the body, as well as her professional experience, to teach others to anticipate trends and cope with varying circumstances. She also explains how and why change occurs and the consequences that result when transition phases are either well or poorly managed. Through her program, Lapp prepares audience members to confront change productively in their personal and professional lives. Attendees will also learn how to position themselves and their companies for the best competitive advantage, where to look for new ideas and trends, and how to coach others through adjustment stages.

Security professionals can enhance security's profile within the organization by training themselves to develop new ideas. Knowing where to find trends is also an asset that security professionals can use to widen their influence in their companies.

Lapp's experience as a college professor, hospital administrator, and consultant has given her a comprehensive understanding of the duties and concerns professionals face. Her presentation will make the most of modern multimedia capabilities to demonstrate her points. Attendees can anticipate an impressive program.

Lapp has had firsthand experience with varied media formats. She is editor of a newsletter, The Change Letter; and has authored two audio programs, Strategic Thinking for the 21st Century and Dancing with Tigers: How to Take Risks, Not Chances. She has also written two forthcoming books, Keep Your Feet Firmly Planted in Mid-Air: A Leader's Guide to Change and Update Your Brain: Thinking for the 21st Century. Lapp's media skills are also evident in her experience as creator and host of the award-winning CBS-affiliate series Keep Well. …
