Russian National Orchestra

Russia's premier classical orchestra returns to the U.S. for its annual national tour, then moves on to tour Europe. Conductors on the U.S. tour will be Vladimir Jurowski and Mikhail Pletnev. Pletnev will conduct the European engagements. Moscow Festival Ballet

Founded in 1989 by Artistic Director Sergei Radchenko, former principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet, the internationally acclaimed Moscow Festival Ballet tours regularly in the United States and throughout the world. Moscow Chamber Orchestra

The "dynamic Moscow Chamber Orchestra" (New York Times) is one of the world's great ensembles. First called "the greatest chamber orchestra in the world" by Dmitri Shostakovich, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2006. The Orchestra's present Music Director, brilliant American pianist/conductor Constantine Orbelian, has brought the MCO into a new era of international activity and acclaim since his appointment in 1991. Russian American Kids Circus

Rooted in the rich and time-treasured traditions of eastern European theater and circus arts, the Russian American Kids Circus delights audiences with a visual spectacle of outrageous costumes, daring aerial feats, expert juggling, astonishing acrobatics, tightrope walking, plate balancing, pantomime, and comedy. Zimmerli Art Museum

The Zimmerli draws on its extensive holdings in the Dodge Collection to present a number of Russian and Baltic-related exhibits this season. These include: Word and Image: Visual Experiments of Russian Artists, 1910s-30s & 1960s-80s:. Two exhibits that look at the ways Soviet artists of different eras sought to bring together visual imagery and words. Dates: Through 03/25/07. Two Masters of Lithuanian Photography: Antanas Sutkus and Rimantas Dichavicius: During the 1960s and 1970s, works by Antanas Sutkus and Rimantas Dichavicius represented the progressive, more experimental tendencies of Soviet photography in opposition to Socialist Realist conventions. Dates: Through 03/25/07. The Heritage of the Russian Avant-Garde: Vladimir Sterligov and His School: More than fifty works of a group of abstract painters that worked in Leningrad from 1960-1990. More than any other group, their art demonstrates the self-conscious continuity of early twentieth-century Russian avant-garde practices in nonconformist art of the post-World War II Soviet Union.
