Aon Corp. of Chicago has hired Bill Choate as its middle-market executive vice president and the Southern regional head for its risk services unit.

Mr. Choate was a managing director and a senior vice president at Wachovia Insurance Services, where he was in charge of, among other things, the Wachovia Corp. unit's national sales team, risk practice, and property/casualty resource and practice groups.

Before that he had been a managing director and the head of global risk and insurance services at Marsh Inc. He joined the insurance brokerage in 1997, when its parent, Marsh & McLennan Cos., bought Johnson and Higgins Inc., where he had been the managing principal.


Marsh Inc. of New York has promoted Patricia Hagemann and Philip Petronis to chief operating officers of two business units and hired David Lessing to fill the position at a third.

Ms. Hagemann, a 26-year Marsh veteran, was named the operating chief of the Americas. She had been the chief financial officer for North American operations.

Mr. Petronis, who has worked at the insurance brokerage and other Marsh & McLennan Cos. units for 32 years, was named the chief operating officer of Marsh Inc.'s global products and services management group. He had been the CFO of the reinsurance unit Guy Carpenter & Co. Inc.

Mr. Lessing was hired as the operating chief of Marsh Inc.'s U.S. middle-market business. He was a managing director at Merrill Lynch & Co. …
