There are times when I have a lot of business lunches, then I get worn out and spend time in the gym. I've been going to La Trompette since I established our office in Chiswick in 2000. We tended to eat in small sandwich shops until we had a little more cashflow, but one day I was walking past La Trompette and it looked pretty cool. It turned out to be fantastic value, and puts other restaurants to shame, at any price.

It has the feel of a French cafe, but with more space and nice quiet areas where you can actually speak. Back then, it was a great place to meet bankers and financial backers. People used to be reluctant to leave Mayfair to come out there, but I know that others I've introduced it to have gone back, because I've seen them there since.

It's a great spot. They have great fixed-course lunches, which is very cost-effective, and the head chef, James Bennington, is always pushing the envelope and trying new flavours. As with any good restaurant, there's tremendous attention to detail in the way the food is presented and served. …
