When I was a little girl, I had some incredible experiences--in my spaceship. It would take off from the same place every day and fly all over the place before landing on my personal pad. Sometimes I'd take a friend and sometimes I went alone. It was my time to explore, to look down and see everything from above. At those moments it felt like there was nothing I couldn't do, nothing I couldn't overcome. Never mind that the playground was the landing pad and the spaceship was the jungle gym. With the power of my imagination, it happened.

As we created this issue, I reflected on the fact that many of the ideas proposed by visionaries like Shel Holtz require us to do away with preconceived notions and allow our imagination to take hold--just to catch a glimpse of what might be. It takes some doing to envision how business would work in a virtual world that is not only interactive but collaborative and immediate as well. …
