City Showcase to Feature Outstanding City Programs

NLC is issuing a call for Requests for Proposals for participation in the 2007 City Showcase to be held on November 14-16 at the annual Congress of Cities in New Orleans.

It has become one of the most popular events at the Congress of Cities--a place where members can take a relaxing stroll through aisles of colorful displays, learn about innovative city programs and network with their peers. Every year, the City Showcase attracts thousands of exhibit hall browsers, and in New Orleans it will be bigger and better than ever.

The City Showcase is an annual exhibition of successful, creative programs from cities and towns across the country. It is presented by city leaders, for city leaders. Its focus is city government programs, not commercial products and services, and booths are manned by city staff, able to provide a wealth of information about the programs. Mayors, council members and staff can network and exchange ideas in a relaxed, self-paced environment.

Cities and towns chosen to participate in the showcase reflect the diversity of NLC membership and the nation--they are small and large, rural and urban, from all corners of the United States. Programs may focus on economic vitality, neighborhood revitalization, public safety, youth, public works, environment, and recreation, just to name a few. All programs that echo the concept of good governance are welcome.
