Treasurer Teri Switzer announced, to applause from the ALA-Allied Professional Association Council, that as of the first quarter of FY2007, the organization showed its first positive net revenues, amounting to $21,757. Her report (ALA-APA CD#4) showed FY2006 revenues of just under $170,000, up 68% from the prior year, mostly from an increase in subscriptions to the Library Worklife electronic journal and sales of the Survey of Librarian Salaries. "I think that this is going to be a big turning point for us," Switzer declared.

Looking at the future, Switzer said that an environmental scan of APA conducted by interns from the Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management found that the organization needs to market itself so that more people, in particular ALA members are aware of its mission and activities. APA will be strengthening its fundraising strategy and placing a greater emphasis on marketing, she noted.

In addition, discussions will be held on whether to develop a certification program for support staff. …
