Microsoft Pays for Wikipedia

Long concerned about its often poor reputation among techies, Microsoft recently further tarnished its reputation when a well-known Internet blogger revealed that he had been contacted by the software giant in hopes that he would "correct' defamatory Wikipedia entries. Rick Jelliffe of OReillynet.com was asked to search through--the publicly provided entries of the online encyclopedia and alter any negative inaccuracies he saw about specific Microsoft products. Many in the high-tech community suspect Microsoft was hoping for much more than mere "corrections," however. "At a minimum, it could be viewed as unethical," said Wikipedia's general counsel.
