American Business Information (ABI) has signed a five-year agreement to provide NIB (National Information Bureau, Ltd.) credit verification and analysis customers with access to ABI's business database containing 10 million U.S. businesses. The service will allow credit grantors to instantly verify the information supplied by business applicants.

NIB, of Princeton, New Jersey, provides businesses with instant credit verification and evaluation through access to BACAS, the Business Analysis and Customer Approval System. BACAS, originally developed by Bell Atlantic and acquired by NIB in 1993, enables businesses to accelerate the process of closing sales to the creditworthy, while instantly identifying risk.

BACAS accomplishes this through online access to multiple consumer and commercial credit reporting services, including ABI and other databases. NIB customers access this multiple-source data over a single line in a single, economical transaction.

The data is provided in formats customized to the needs of individual businesses, including support to point-of-sale locations. Routine credit decisions can be automated through the application of the Decision Support Module contained in the BACAS system to provide decision making consistency utilizing the credit grantor's credit policies and procedures, as well as to reduce costs associated with manual credit analysis.

ABI's business database contains information on 10 million separate U.S. businesses including small businesses, regional offices, branches, and headquarters. …
