American Business Information supplies direct online access to 11,000,000 U.S. and Canadian business listings. Much of ABI's data appear on many commercial services, including a gateway to the direct service from NewsNet. Data comes from over 5,000 yellowpage telephone directories, businesses in white-page listings, annual reports, SEC filings, etc. ABI verifies the data with phone call checks. Company Profile reports provide name of owner or CEO, number of employees, sales volume, line of business, and contact information. ABI charges $6 for each report plus system charges. Searchers can also get mailing labels or printouts for $4 plus 25 cents per name and address. Counts of companies in market categories for statistical analysis are charged the base connect-time rates of $15/ connecthour. The gateway connection to NewsNet accesses the direct service through a menu-driven database guide divided into geographic categories -- U.S. Businesses, U.S. Manufacturers, Canadian Businesses -- and then type of information -- Business lists, counts, company profiles. The ABI service also provides TRW business credit reports for $29 each. In the near future they hope to add MetroMail's Peoplefinder file currently available on LEXIS/NEXIS, Information America, and direct from MetroMail's Metronet service.
