Southern Lithoplate Announces New CTP Sites

Southern Lithoplate Inc., Wake Forest, N.C., maker of analog and digital lithoplates and related products, announced that seven newspaper locations, in addition to Press Journal Printing, Louisiana, Mo., and Pharos Press, Logansport, Ind. (see January E&P) and Cheyenne's Wyoming Tribune-Eagle (see "On the Supply Side" in next month's E&P), recently incorporated Viper 830 thermal lithoplates as a part of the "Southern Lithoplate CtP Alliance Solution."

The alliance provides newspapers with computer-to-plate consumables, self-serviceable platesetters, workflow management software, and punch solutions for precise on-press register. Prepress workflow partners are Polkadots Software Inc., Presteligence, ProImage America and Screen USA. Nela completes the Alliance with its proven Benchmark series of three-point and Vision punch benders.

Among Wisconsin's last family-owned papers, the Watertown Daily Times prints 30,000 copies six days a week, as well as a company weekly and several area publications on contract. The 20-year Southern Lithoplate customer sought to speed prepress and increase print quality. "Our entire workflow package was purchased through the CtP Alliance," Production manager Greg Thrams said in a statement. The Daily Times will use Viper 830 plates with its Screen PlateRite News 2000 thermal platesetter, Screen Trueflow Rite News workflow system and Nela conveyor and stacker.
