In a "fiercely competitive" market for free papers and semicommercial work, Danish newspaper and contract printer ELBO Avistryk, in Fredericia, will install a highly automated KBA Cortina watereless offset press next fall in a new plant.

Director Gunnar Christiansen said in a statement that the Cortina "delivers a superb print quality with 50% less dot gain," can handle a 150-line or FM screen, minimizes waste, needs fewer operators "and can be made ready for the next job in no time."

Already waterless in sheetfed offset for some years, ELBO is "familiar with the basic technology," Christiansen said.

The floor-mounted Cortina will have a 22-inch cutoff and maximum web width of 62.25 inches. Capable of delivering 32 broadsheet or 64 tabloid pages in full color at 40,000 copies per hour, the press will comprise two eight-couple towers with central ink pumping, automatic blanket washing, KBA PlateTronic automatic plate changing, KBA RollerTronic automatic roller adjustment and KBA's new, remote-controlled NipTronic bearing units for fine impression adjustment. …
