Michie Releases Federal CD-ROM Library Designed for Small Law Firms

Article excerpt

The Michie company, legal publishers since 1855, and LEXIS/NEXIS have released Michie's Federal Law on Disc, a CD-ROM library containing case law from all federal Circuit Courts and the U.S. Supreme Court.

According to Andy Wyszkowski, Michie's vice president and director of Electronic Publishing, "we designed Federal Law on Disc specifically with solo practitioners and small firms in mind. We wanted to let legal researchers choose only the federal case law they need for their practice. Now they can mix and match among the thirteen Federal Circuits and Supreme Court."

The system offers the option to use Michie's Online Connection software to link Federal Law on Disc directly to a LEXIS update file where researchers can find the latest decisions available from the state courts. Then users can "hotkey" back and forth between the two references. Online Connection gives unlimited access (searching, online printing, or downloading) to the Update file for one flat monthly fee - no network or telecommunication charges.

Citations can be verified by using the Shepard's Citation Service and the AutoCite Service with Law on Disc. With just a few keystrokes, a Law on Disc session can be put "on hold," while the citation is verified, and then the Law on Disc session can be continued. …
