Telebyte Technology, Inc. is offering a new lightning/surge protector that complies with the updated requirements of Underwriters Labs and the National Electrical Code. The product, called the Model 2356, provides hardware compliance with UL1459.

The current version of UL 1459 requires additional protection to ensure personal safety in the event of an Over Voltage or Power Cross condition. This occurs when the telephone line accidentally comes in contact with electrical cables supplying power to buildings and residences thus generating a potentially dangerous situation. Furthermore, the National Electrical Code (NEC) also requires that all telecommunications wiring entering a building must pass through a Primary Protector designed to limit Over Voltages greater than 600 volts.

The Model 2356 is the first quadruple stage lightning protectors for high speed Telco lines available today. It satisfies 56KBS/64KBS and ISDN lines and accommodates two twisted pairs. The four stages of protection include gas tubes, dual avalanche diodes, and fusing to comply with the UL1459 requirement for Over Voltage and Power Cross. …
