MY HIGH SCHOOL

For high school I attended the Hawaii Preparatory Academy, a college prep school only a five-minute drive from my house. It was once an Episcopal school for boys, and its Davies Chapel Committee to help create a more diversified service that would better address the needs of a diverse, international student body.

For their 40th anniversary issue, The Advocate staff asked me to document my life for them. They wanted me--and two other young people, whose lives are chronicled on Advocate.com--to give a visual account of what it is to be young and gay today. I'm Steven, 19, a junior at the University of Southern California. I grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii, in a town called Waimea, and I returned there this summer. This is my life at the place that will forever be my home.
