UMI Develops Computer Abstracts Database on CD-ROM

UMI has announced the creation of Computer Abstracts, a new database designed to offer library patrons information on evaluating and analyzing computer hardware, software, computer companies, and other related topics.

"More and more people are planning to purchase computers and software and this new database is a great resource for libraries to answer computer-related questions and provide product information," says Carol Brent, UMI product manager. "Computer Abstracts provides comprehensive abstracts and bibliographic citations to publications focusing on the use of microcomputers in business, education, and the home. The database also includes hardware and software product reviews, company profiles stories, technology round-up features, buyer and vendor guides, and more."

Computer Abstracts' information is provided by Learned Information's Microcomputer Abstracts and journal citations, abstracts, and directory records from Information Sources Inc.'s Business Software Database. The database also includes computer-related abstracts from ABI/INFORM. The annual subscription for one to four simultaneous users is $2,000. …
