The allegations are about as messy as a college keg party, but perhaps that's fitting for a lawsuit between people who work on beer magazines. Fred Dodsworth, editor of Berkeley, California-based Juice, has filed his long-promised lawsuit against former partner Bill Owens, publisher of Beer. The Magazine, a tide published out of Hayward, California.

Dodsworth is seeking in excess of $20,000 in back wages and a buyout of his 20 percent share in the bimonthly Beer, according to his attorney. Last October, Owens fired Dodsworth as editor for allegedly missing deadlines. Dodsworth says Owens didn't have money to pay the printer. (Beer has a pressrun of 44,000.) Another former shareholder, Gerry DiBiasi, is also expected to a file suit against Oweas for violating the terms of their agreement.

Meanwhile, Owens claims that a Heineken ad meant for Beer's May/June issue was mistakenly sent to Dodsworth's home - Beer's former mailing address - and that Dodsworth then printed it in the June/July launch issue of Juice. …
