Four Daily Execs Named McCormick Tribune Fellows

Editors from USA Today, the Detroit Free Press, and The Seattle Times were among the media executives of color selected to be 2008 McCormick Tribune Fellows.

As part of the program, which aims to increase the number and impact of minority executives in newspapers and other media, the Fellows will attend executive education programs at the Media Management Center at Northwestern University. Print and digital Fellows will also attend the Advanced Executive Program.

They will also join the "Fellows Braintrust," described as a community of multicultural senior media managers and executives that "provides research and insight on media management and diversity issues for the benefit of its members and the media industry."

This year, 22 candidates nominated by senior leaders in their organization applied from print, television, radio and magazine media applied for the fellowship.

"This year's selection process was grueling because all the applicants were such good candidates, said Fellows director Ava Greenwell. "And yet it was an invigorating process to see the profiles of some of the best media managers in the country. …
