Magnum, AL, a video produced by American Libraries Associate Editor Daniel Kraus, heralds the upcoming American Libraries Focus, the new video and podcasting component of American Libraries Online. Created in conjunction with the magazine's 100th anniversary, the video was conceived as "a fun way to introduce the staff and to reintroduce AL to its readers," said Kraus, a librarian and filmmaker who joined the staff last August. The video is a send up of the 1980s Magnum, P.I. television series starring Tom Selleck.

"With Magnum--and future videos--we want to humanize ALA, show the human face behind the complicated organization, and reveal that, yes, we do indeed have a sense of humor and an awareness of the power of new media," said AL Editor-in-Chief Leonard Kniffel.

The video was posted to YouTube (youtube.com/watch?v=o0f_iAYWKlI) March 19 to take advantage of the viral spread of information online; in the first two weeks it was viewed more than 5,000 times, not including the hundreds of views from blogs that embedded the video. …
