Heath Ledger Found Dead in NYC -- Media Now Say No 'Olsen Twin' Connection

Actor Heath Ledger, 28, was found dead this afternoon in New York City. The news was carried by The New York Times's Web site shortly before 5:00 pm. An hour later the paper reported that police suspect suicide or an accidental overdose.

According to the initial report, he was found "in an apartment in Manhattan owned by the actress Mary-Kate Olsen, according to the New York City police." The Times and other media corrected this Olsen error later.

An update at 6:45 PM read: "Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the office of the city's chief medical examiner, Dr. Charles S. Hirsch, said that employees of the office were at the apartment and that an autopsy would be conducted on Wednesday. Around 6:30 p.m., city workers rolled Mr. Ledger's body, which was in a black body bag on a stretcher, out of the building."

By then, the Times had rounded up comments from his former neighbors in Brooklyn and Soho residents who had met him near where he was found dead. …
