VEN Y SIGUEME Santiago Fernandez (OCP, 2006)

I sang it, my mother sang it, and my grandmother sang it. "Pescador de Hombres" has been for generations a staple of Hispanic liturgical celebrations. Yet in the last few years Latino liturgical musicians have been giving a new voice to the U.S. Hispanic community's faith. One of these voices is Santiago Fernandez, a young but seasoned composer and performer.

Married with three children, he is a well-known pastoral and liturgical ministry speaker. While Fernandez ministers to English- and Spanish-speaking communities, his commitment to Latino Catholics is evident in his collaboration with numerous Hispanic national organizations. He brings a fresh approach to liturgical music that, while faithful to Latino rhythms, is clearly his own. Fernandez offers meaningful songs, easy to sing, with a wide range of melodies and beats, which facilitates their use in different contexts.

Fernandez' latest CD, Ven y Sigueme (Come and Follow Me), is a collection of 12 contemporary songs, nine of which are based on scripture. …
