Adwatch: Confused.com - 'Gas and Electricity'

As someone brought up in a house where the only source of heating was a three-bar fire in the front room, and the third bar famously went on only briefly one night in January 1973 when my grandad's Woodbine froze to his fingers, I'm not that fussed where my heating comes from, or how much it costs.

I, as many others in this era of diversification, am one of those consumers whose electricity is supplied by British Gas and their gas by ... well, I actually have no idea ... Butlins? Five? Tom Cruise? - I'll ask the missus and get back to you. This means that a website that can get me cheaper bills has got to be a good thing, which brings me neatly to the latest ad from Confused.com.

It opens with a guy in a bobble hat, whose first line is 'The nights are drawing in, and I know what you're thinking'. Actually, what I'm thinking is 'I'm confused'. Why is the bloke sitting in a cardboard house - if he wants to get warm, shouldn't he get inside a brick one? …
