'Daily Breeze' Makes National News with Ferraro Quotes

Former Rep. Geraldine Ferraro -- now a fundraiser and adviser to Hillary Clinton -- caused further trouble for that campaign today explaining earlier race-oriented remarks to the same California paper. Aides to Barack Obama has called on Clinton to delete her from her campaign.

In the first interview with the Daily Breeze of Torrance, Ferraro had said, "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color), he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

This caused a firestorm on cable TV news shows and at political blogs. But the Breeze reported late today that "far from backing off from her initial remark, Ferraro defended it and elaborated on it."

Ferraro told the paper: "Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let's address reality and the problems we're facing in this world, you're accused of being racist, so you have to shut up. …
