The ISM Executive Committee met recently in Reston, Va., to start the planning process for the 41st Annual ISM Conference, to be held in San Francisco from Aug. 24-27, 2008. The 2007 ISM conference, held in Cambridge, Mass., was an unqualified success, attracting more than 800 registrants and providing one of the most diverse agendas in history of the affiliate. It is the expectation of the ISM Executive Committee that the 2008 conference will be even better with the attractive (not to mention larger) venue of the Westin St. Francis on Union Square in San Francisco. It is one of ISM's initiatives to develop an even stronger agenda for 2008 in a shorter period of time so as to better market the conference to its membership.

The executive committee also worked on establishing some long-term goals for the organization. It is the desire of the affiliate to be known as the "go to place" for state and local agencies when in need of information about Human Services IT. To become this clearinghouse of IT knowledge, ISM plans on building a database of all state and member local agencies' human service systems; develop an effective method for disseminating best practices through an on-line newsletter and printed publications; more effectively tap into all the professional knowledge resident in our regional and state representatives; and grow strong leadership within its ranks to ensure the successful continuation of the affiliate. …
