Marketing Mix: We'll Call You - Honda

Article excerpt

Mix wants to buy a second-hand Honda, but will the car's faulty handbrake be able to cope with the hill we live on?

Honda Good morning, you're through to the Honda contact centre. My name is Matt, may I take your name, please?

Mktg Hi, yes (Mktg gives details). I am looking to buy a Honda Civic and I've just seen on the news that there's a problem with the brakes. I was going to buy one second-hand and I'm slightly worried now.

Honda What year or registration was the car?

Mktg I'm not sure, I know it's an 06.

Honda Right, OK, it would be one of the models affected. There's not an issue as such with the brakes, it's the handbrake that's affected Basically, if you push the button on the handbrake it doesn't click back in, so doesn't catch the brake properly. At the moment, customers are being advised to lift the handbrake without pushing the button in, and, in the next week, customers who are registered will receive a letter from Honda telling them to go to their local dealer to have it sorted.

Mktg How will I know when I buy it second-hand, if it's been changed? The other problem I have is that I live on a huge hill.

Honda Well, to make you feel completely 100% sure, I would advise leaving it in gear. …
