NewsWay Automates 'Pioneer Press' Workflow

The St. Paul Pioneer Press has implemented the browser-based NewsWay workflow automation from ProImage, in Princeton, N.J.

Before recently installing Kodak CTP equipment, the paper decided it needed a single workflow automation solution that would integrate editorial and advertising prepress systems, proofing devices, RIPs, platesetters and punch-benders, and to send ink presets to the pressroom.

"Besides being able to manage our pages and plate output, ProImage was one of the few vendors that offered an interface to our Goss MPCS press-control system for ink presets," Production Director Kevin Garris said in a statement. "It has also provided us with a significant improvement in throughput speed." In Saint Paul, NewsWay imports page plans from a Mactive advertising system and then creates edition plans for the various daily products - an entirely automated process except for any plate counts modified by plateroom staff.

An OpenPages editorial system releases Postscript pages while the Mactive system releases PDF pages to NewsWay. …
