Netscape and Geac to Provide Web Software to Libraries

Geac Computers, Inc. has announced that it is now affiliated with the Netscape Communications Corporation. According to the announcement, this alliance marks the first such program between the network software provider and the library automation industry. As a Netscape affiliate, Geac will provide Netscape open software directly to its users and act as the single source for sales, support, and installation.

This joint effort is focused on providing software to facilitate information creation, access, and exchange over the Internet with libraries at the center of activity. Geac's general manager for its U.S. Library Division, Stan Pearson, said, "This venture reflects the logical affiliation between information technology providers and libraries. Having Netscape tools available will enable our customers to offer the Internet and World Wide Web information resources that their user populations demand."

The Netscape products deliver secure communications, advanced performance, and point-and-click simplicity to users who want to create or access information services on the Internet or private TCP/IP networks. …
