- How do you come up with marketing ideas?

With 364 editions a year, we need a constant flow of fresh ideas. We use a combination of methods, which includes brainstorming, research, consumer insight and regular discussion within the department.

- What is the main challenge that your team faces?

The rapidly changing media landscape is presenting us with some interesting challenges. As media consumption habits shift, the biggest is to make our titles as relevant and useful to our readers as possible, whatever media platform they choose to interact with us on. Operating as the only PLC in a sector as competitive as the newspaper market also means we have to be more accountable, more cost-efficient and more pragmatic than our rivals.

- What are the perks of the job?

There are occasional movie premieres and parties, as well as interesting things that are sent to the office, such as toys, books, DVDs, bonsai trees and desktop massage machines.

- Describe the marketing team in three words.

Creative, tenacious, dedicated.

- What is the dress code?

Standard business wear.

- Does the marketing team socialise outside office hours? If so, what is the local pub/bar?

Yes, Friday nights are generally spent in Davy's at Canary Wharf. We also try to organise a big event a couple of times a year. Last year, low-rent bowling at Christmas was one particular highlight.

- What are the hours like?

They can be long. As a department, we work within both normal business hours of 9am to 6pm, and editorial hours of 10am until midnight, which often means late nights.
