'Omaha World-Herald' Looks to Saxotech for Multi-Channel Newsroom

Overhauling its newsroom technology systems, the Omaha (Neb.) World-Herald will build an integrated print and digital content-management architecture on the multi-channel Mediaware Center from Saxotech, Tampa, Fla.

The implementation will enable more than 200 staffers at Nebraska's largest daily to contribute, coordinate and collaborate on content in a 24-hour news-publishing environment.

"Looking for a content-management system that would be efficient yet versatile," Executive Editor Larry King said in a statement, Saxotech was selected because "we need a system that our staff can use with ease and confidence but that is sophisticated enough to produce multi-media content for our online and mobile digital products as well as our five editions a day, a metro zoned product and numerous niche publications."

The paper sought to replace the "production silos" of 10-year-old proprietary systems with "a single platform solution to ... help prepare our newsroom for the future by giving us tools necessary to work in a channel-agnostic world," added Assistant Managing Editor Jeff Carney, who led the selection committee. …
