So. Africa's Caxton Adds Tark to Tera Newsroom System

For its Johannesburg flagship, The Citizen, large South African publisher Caxton CTP bought a 90-seat Tark archiving system from Milan-based Tera Digital Publishing to help expansion in online publishing.

Caxton, which prints two million copies of its titles per week at nine company-owned plants, already uses Tera's GN3 editorial content-management system across its 88 free and paid titles. It uses Tera's Ted editing program, Fred page-layout application and Topic OPI.

Following a trial of several months, Tark was selected for configurability, media-independent XML-based approach, and tight with GN3, which permits one-step archiving of all work without manual intervention, according to Tera.

Stories are translated into XML, color pictures are retrieved from the OPI and converted into JPEG format, while grayscale and line art are converted into GIF. Caxton will be able to run Tark in conjunction with its existing Tera Site Manager software, which organizes and manages content for digital publication such as Web sites and other presentation technologies using XML-based output channels. …
