RIMS on the Hill 2008

Article excerpt

Every June, the Risk and Insurance Management Society convenes its legislative conference, known as RIMS on the Hill. This year marked the 10th annual conference, with roughly 40 risk managers making the trek to Washington, D.C. to lobby their, members of Congress. "RIMS on the Hill is one of the highlights of a RIMS year for me," said Janice Ochenkowski, RIMS president and managing director at Jones Lang LaSalle. "It is only through tile efforts of RIMS members and staff that this change has occurred."

The RIMS on the Hill program begins with schooling attendees on the issues at hand so that they have the substantive background needed to effectively communicate the issues and lobby their members of Congress. For many participants, this was their first year attending RIMS on the Hill, and they found the event to be very beneficial. "My experiences listening to the panels and going to the Hill helped me immensely in understanding the task that is ahead in creating and passing new legislation," said Roy Franco, director of casualty claims for Safeway Inc. …
