When Tony Snow passed away last month, we lost more than one of our best and brightest. We lost a man who embodied the values that make America great: love of God, love of family, love of country. His death is especially sad because Tony Snow set an example for living.

Most will remember him for his intelligence and charisma as he promoted conservative causes--whether on cable news, in print columns, on talk radio or as the president's press secretary. His remarkable mind and eloquence made him one of the most influential people in politics and public life.

Those who knew him best always brought up something else, too: his deep and unshakable optimism. He had a rare energy for life and its challenges. Perhaps nothing illustrates this more than Snow's complete joy in tackling the job of presidential press secretary--one of the toughest, most thankless jobs around. He gave up a much higher salary to serve the president and his country, and he never stopped telling friends that it was the best thing he'd ever done. …
