Welcome to the new-look Marketing and its fresh, contemporary design. We have made sure this issue is packed with information, setting the agenda for the final quarter of the year. As well as being a good read, we aim to give you real food for thought.

We have made it easier for you to find your way around. There are also new elements, notably the news round-up across pages 4 and 5, giving a 'speed-read' overview of the industry every week.

We have dedicated this issue to the economic downturn. Not the cheeriest subject, but one that we are all grappling with. On page 15, Make every penny count offers expert advice on how to make your marketing budget go further in a downturn, from managing your media spend effectively to ingratiating yourself with your finance director. It also says you should wean brands off price promotions - a practice most cling to in apparently recessionary times.
