IHS Group Unveils Strategy to Move Information Databases to the Web

Information Handling Services Group Inc. (IHS Group) has announced a broad corporate-wide Internet publishing strategy. The international electronic publisher outlined a plan to migrate all of its companies' information databases to the World Wide Web.

The transition to the Internet marks a natural shift for IHS Group, currently the world's leading producer of information databases on CD-ROM, according to IHS. By adapting database products for delivery over the World Wide Web, IHS Group companies will provide their customers with an unprecedented choice of information access.

"IHS Group's global Internet strategy is to support customer's information needs by offering total access to IHS Group company databases," said L. Christopher Meyer, executive vice president and CEO of IHS Group. "Total access will provide customers with comprehensive, rapid, and seamless access to IHS Group companies' database information directly from their desktops. Taking advantage of recent breakthroughs in search and retrieval technologies, our objective is to exploit the Net's true potential as a delivery mechanism, providing total access to updated information that our customers need, in the form they need it and when they need it."

One element of IHS Group's Internet strategy is a new alliance with CADIS, Inc. of Boulder, Colorado, the creator of Krakatoa, an innovative finding application designed specifically for Web-based environments. CADIS specializes in interactive search and retrieval software development. …
