OCLC Releases OCLC CatCD Windows-Based CD-ROM System

OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. has announced that OCLC CatCD for Windows is now available. A Windows-based CD-ROM system used for off-line cataloging, this product offers improved functionality to increase productivity in a user-friendly environment. The new OCLC CatCD for Windows will replace CAT CD450, the Dos-based compact disc cataloging system.

OCLC CatCD for Windows makes it possible to catalog in a stand-alone environment, yet have access to an unparalleled volume of records taken from the OCLC Online Union Catalog, a bibliographic database renowned for its comprehensiveness.

"OCLC CatCD for Windows provides yet another option to libraries around the world to increase access to bibliographic information and to reduce costs," said Phyllis B. Spies, OCLC vice president, member services, sales, and international. "Compact disc technology allows libraries to tap into the rich resources of the OCLC Online Union Catalog without having to face some of the telecommunications obstacles that smaller or more remote international institutions face when considering online access to records for cataloging. …
