Ask a Librarian is a new monthly feature in which librarians will have a chance to sound off on Computers in Libraries' topic of the month. In this installment, Gwen M. Gregory, associate director for technical services at the John Marshall Law School Library in Chicago and Information Today columnist, discusses the relationship between libraries and the web.

Q: What can libraries do to advance their web presence?

A: First of all, integrate their web presence with the institution they are affiliated with (university, school, business, city) so that they are an accessible destination for information seekers. Second, make their services web-friendly. Need information? Just ask for it! ... Finally, do some usability testing with your userbase to see what works and what doesn't.
