School Security Competition Announces Winner

ASIS International has announced that Sierra Vista High School of Las Vegas, Nevada, is the winner of this year's School Security Funding Competition. ASIS has awarded the school $20,000 for security improvements.

Sierra Vista High School is one of Clark County (Nevada) School District's largest schools, with a student population of more than 3,250 and a sizeable campus. It was selected as the winning school for the level of detail it provided on its existing security plan and the feasibility and sustainability of the security enhancements it proposed.

As in previous years, the competition was held in conjunction with ASIS's Annual Seminar and Exhibits--this iteration to be held in Las Vegas September 24-27. The competition was open to all 326 elementary, middle, and high schools in the area. School administrators were asked to assess the level of security on their campuses, discuss how particular security concerns affected their student educational goals, and suggest how they would use the prize money to address those concerns and improve their school's overall security.

All competition submissions were judged by a committee comprised of security experts from the Las Vegas Chapter of ASIS, representatives of the Clark County School District, The Public Education Foundation, and the Clark County School District Police Department. …
