Queens of Comedy: The Country's Most Famous Comedy Club Gives Gays the Mike

THE GIRLS stumbling out of L.A.'s Hyde nightclub on Sunset Boulevard don't usually have to sidestep a giant drag queen to get to the valet. Three blocks south, boys make out in the street, but this stretch of West Hollywood is decidedly straight. Hyde is next door to the Laugh Factory, which draws the kinds of comics who find a gay joke the easiest way to bring the house down. On a Friday night in September, that formula was again successful.

"I love Project Runway," comic Adam Sank told the audience. "You know, that show where 10 gay men vie to be the best seamstress?"

Sank was one of four gay performers--plus host Jerome Cleary--featured on the opening night of "Thank Gays It's Friday," the Laugh Factory's weekly gay-themed comedy show.
