Article excerpt

The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) has announced that it is adding a new edition to its Focus On: line of highly targeted database. Focus On: Psychopharmacology is available for Windows and Macintosh operating systems and will be published monthly.

The Focus On diskette products provide researchers with current bibliographic information and author abstracts on research literature from within their specialized fields. The scope of the new database includes clinical and experimental studies of psychotropic substances in humans and animals, as well as biochemical models of human behavior. Subtopics include mechanisms of action, neurophysiology, and clinical trials of psychotropic substances; models and neurophysiology of mental disorders; and drug treatment in conjunction with and compared to cognitive or behavioral therapy, side effects, and compliance in drug treatment of mental disorders.

"Focus On: Psychopharmacology will aid the work of researchers who are striving to build bridges between biochemical models of brain function and the practical clinical treatment of mental disorders and substance abuse," said James K. Pringle, vice president and general manager of Specialized Current Awareness Products, ISI. "We believe it will make an important contribution to the advancement of both scientific research and social welfare."

Like the other Focus On databases, Focus On: Psychopharmacology will provide cover-to-cover indexing of the most prestigious journals that deal exclusively with its subject areas, as well as selective coverage of nearly 16,000 journals, books, and proceeding from outside the core literature. …
