Who/Where--Dick Bobo is EVP and CCO, Cumberland Bank, Franklin, Tennessee, an $875 million community bank offering commercial and residential real estate lending, commercial business lending, consumer lending, construction lending, and other traditional financial services.

What/Why--As vice chairman of the bank's credit committee, Bobo has overall responsibility for direct management and evaluation of loans, as well as managing risk in the loan portfolio, evaluating the adequacy of allowance for loan and lease losses, setting and maintaining quality credit policies, and managing special assets and problem credits.


1965-78: Joined First American National Bank, Nashville, starting out in a credit training program.

1979-81: Managed five commercial lending and staff divisions as well as a mortgage banking subsidiary.

1982-88: Moved to the holding company as an asset/liability manager, then as executive vice president and director of credit policy.

1989-97: Established C. Richard Bobo & Associates, as a consultant primarily to community banks.

1998-02: Joined First Farmers and Merchants National Bank, Columbia, first as head of the loan review department and then as chief credit officer.

2003: Joined Cumberland Bank.

Most Rewarding Experience--In 2003, Cumberland Bank had a very high delinquency ratio, a high level of classified loans, and a disjointed credit culture. …
