Blackwell's, a leading global provider of scholarly information, and its medical/ corporate subsidiary, Readmore, have announced The librarian's channel, an innovative new product and the first release from Blackwell's channel information concept. The librarian's channel has been developed by Blackwell's to illustrate to library and information professionals the potential of the latest push and pull technologies that are currently sweeping the world of the Internet.

The Librarian's Channel will allow the user to access on the desktop categories of relevant information that have been organized and pulled down from appropriate Web sites by the program; a live Internet connection is not required except during the updating process. Remote sites are also easily accessed from links within the application if the user has live Internet connection. The front end, which serves as the main menu and screen saver, also contains a broadcast screen in which specialist information and news can be presented to the user. The Librarian's Channel may be accused as an application on the desktop or installed as a screen saver.

Information that users will now have at their fingertips includes library news, conference information, job postings, tables of contents from a number of new books and from over 50 journals in the field of library and information science, new serial titles, links to a great variety of library-related sites, etc. The Librarian's Channel also includes remote links to a number of selected medical-and corporate-library resources. …
