NARA Publishes Databases on the Web with Cuadra STAR

The National Archives and Records administration (NARA) is offering access to its database via the Internet with help from Cuadra Associates' STAR Web Interface. STAR is an information management and retrieval software that is connected to any Web server by a common gateway interface.

NARA is currently using the STAR Web Interface in two applications: the NARA Audio-Visual Information Locator (NAIL) and the JFK Assassination Collection database. Both of these databases are being made available to the public as well as to NARA researchers through Web technology.

NAIL is database of descriptions of still pictures, film, video, and sound data collected over 60 years by the various federal agencies. It is intended to help people determine where each item of interest is located and tell them how to order it. The database is available at http://www.nara .gov/nara/nail.html.
