WinStar Communications, Inc. has announced that its WinStar New Media subsidiary has acquired N2K's Telebase division, a leading developer of online business information services. Telebase provides online reference services to small and medium-sized businesses on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Since its inception in 1984, Telebase has pioneered a number of developments in the online industry and provides access to many of the world's leading business databases. In addition to its own Web-based offerings, Telebase is a developer of private-labeled Internet offerings and is the business content provider for IQuest, available on CompuServe, and the Business Reference Center, available on Prodigy Internet.

Telebase services allow direct, pay-as-you-go access to important business resources that the company says are usually available only to large companies and libraries. Financial and credit data, patents, trademarks, and articles from thousands of business, news, science, and technology publications are among the resources on Telebase's services.
