The series of trailers for The Dream Team, Sky's new football soap opera, seemed specifically designed to attract me to a world of soccer and pretty women. go it was a touch disappointing to discover that it is scheduled for 6pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I'll never be in and I'm not organised enough to tape it.

This didn't appear to be a problem for others in my age group, as Sky doubled its 16- to 34-year-old audience week on week, but I'd guess that most of those watching were nearer the 16- to 20-year-old mark.

The Dream Team taps in to the current popularity of football and soaps, and judging by the first episode has done so with some style. It's the normal formula of good acting interspersed with football clips - a sort of younger version of The Manageress.

The first game featured was Chelsea v Manchester United, thereby bringing some Italian magic into the proceedings. …
