International Content, Color Enhance UMI's ProQuest Direct

Article excerpt

UMI has announced two new international business databases for its online information system, ProQuest Direct. In addition, the company has introduced color and additional new features to the system. The announcements were made at the International Online conference in London.

European, Asian Business Databases

The new databases, ProQuest European Business and ProQuest Asian Business, are designed for use by business school students and faculty throughout Europe and Asia, respectively, as well as other schools that focus on international business.

ProQuest European Business and ProQuest Asian Business build upon the ABI/INFORM database, which has been providing coverage of business conditions, trends, corporate strategies and tactics, management techniques, competitive and product information, and other topics for more than 20 years. The new databases will also include well-known local and regional European and Asian publications. Information will include citations, abstracts, and full text, with some full-page images as well.

UMI's vice president of international sales, Paul Tucci, said: "Today, business and finance know no national boundaries. As we have recently witnessed in Asia, what affects one country or region of the world can directly affect businesses, executives, employees, customers, and stockholders elsewhere. Those events, in turn, are frequent topics for discussion and research at business schools worldwide."

The European database will consist of more than 100 titles, including The Economist, Fortune, Central European Economic Review, OECD Economic Outlook, and OECD Observer.

The Asian database will consist of more than 50 titles. Among them are The Economist, Far Eastern Economic Review, Fortune, Forbes, Asian Banker, Asiaweek, China Daily, Vietnam Economic Times, and Antara, the Indonesian National News Agency.

Color, Other Features for ProQuest Direct v. 1.6

The color feature for ProQuest Direct is included in the latest release, version 1.6. Color full text and graphics are initially available for a select number of journals, including Science, The New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet, and Brain. …
