Xlibris Announces On-Demand Publishing Service

Xlibris Corporation has announced the launch of a fully digital on-demand publishing service, the first of its kind, according to the company. The service includes two major components: on-demand publishing combined with on-demand book manufacturing and distribution.

Using the on-demand publishing tools available on the Xlibas Web site, authors interactively publish their books from their own computers. Publishers use the same systems to enable continued publication and sale of books that would otherwise go out of print. Once a book is in Xlibris' systems, the company manufactures and fulfills orders for that book in single-copy quantities.

According to Xlibris, of the 1 million authors working in the U.S. today, 900,000 will never be published. Approximately 500,000 books are written in the U.S. each year, and only 50,000 of them are published. Books that are published face an average shelf life of no more than 1 year before they go back off the market.

Xlibris provides a solution to this in the publishing marketplace. The company has developed the technology to provide all authors with access to publication and to keep every book permanently in print. …
