Leaders Never Waste a Crisis: Webinars Replace Conference

Citing the challenging economic climate, the National Staff Development and Training Association has postponed its annual conference scheduled for fall 2009 until 2010.

NSDTA builds professional and organizational capacity in the human services through a national network of members who share ideas and resources on organizational development, staff development, and training. Uniquely, the NSDTA is the only national organization dedicated to professional development in human services.

The decision to cancel the 2009 conference was made at the NSDTA annual winter meeting held in Washington, D.C., Feb. 6-7. In fact, travel restrictions in state budgets required many of the board members to participate in the meeting by Webex.

"Many states are focusing on client services and are searching for ways to do more with less. We didn't feel that having a big, festive conference was aligned with the mood of the times" an NSDTA representative said.

Board members expressed regret, but postponement is the only option given that even some local members from the New England area said they would not be able to participate.
