- How would you describe marketing?

The art of identifying consumer needs and communicating your value proposition.

- What advice would you give someone starting their marketing career today?

Don't be too rigid with your plans. Have a goal and pick your moves carefully - but look at growth opportunities above all else.

- What attracted you to your current job?

I love cooking, and grew up with Pyrex. This was a great challenge to help reshape the face of the brand in the UK.

- What was your first job?

A part-time admin assistant at a travel agency, when I was 18.

- If you were a brand, what would you be?

Jo Malone. All my friends know of my long-lasting loyalty to its goods I love the understated luxury, high-quality, clean look, and, above all, the fact that its scents are not commonplace.

- What is your favourite campaign or slogan?

Nike's 'Just do it'. The idea of cutting through all the barriers and getting on with things really resonates with me.

- If you weren't you, who would you be?

I greatly admire both Dr Craig Venter, the geneticist who created the human genome process, and Dr Zahi Hawass, the Egyptian archeologist Their careers fascinate me - but I'm not sure I want to be them. …
