The 2009 Turner Prize shortlist has been announced: Enrico David, Roger Hiorns, Lucy Skaer and Richard Wright. The exhibition opens at Tate Britain in October and the winner will be announced during the traditional Channel 4 live broadcast on 7 December. The prizewinner collects 25,000 [pounds sterling] and the remaining shortlisted artists each receive 5,000 [pounds sterling].

The Red Mansion Foundation, which was established in 1999 to promote artistic exchange between China and the UK, has announced the winners of this year's Red Mansion Art Prize: Sabina Donnelly, Pippa Gatty, Una Knox, Keh Ng, Saad Ahmed Qureshi, Lizzie Porter and Esmerelda Valencia. The prizewinners, all MA students, will spend a month in China over the summer and hold an exhibition of their work in London later in the year. The judges were Whitechapel Gallery director Iwona Blaswick, Red Mansion's director Nicolette Kwok, artist Katie Patterson and Art Monthly's editor Patricia Bickers. www.redmansion.co.uk

Bill Viola has been awarded the XXI Catalonia International Prize, which was founded in 1989 with the broad remit to recognise those who have made 'key contributions to the development of cultural, scientific or human values'. …
