Who's Where in the Political World

Article excerpt

Veteran GOP operative Ed Patru has launched Amplifico, a new public affairs firm. Patru, a former spokesman at the NRCC and the conservative group Freedom's Watch, is partnering with Marc Ross in the new venture. Amplifico, which is Latin for amplify, will primarily serve corporations, trade associations and business coalitions facing public policy challenges. Patru and Ross say the firm will blend "presidential campaign-style war room with communications operations and grassroots development services," according to a recent press release. "Legislation is a function of pubic will and public will is a function of conventional wisdom and conventional wisdom is shaped through the media, largely," Patru says. He says Amplifico is prepared to participate in today's high speed news cycle, providing campaigns with "a turn-key, fully functional 24-hour war room [paired] with aggressive online or offline public relations."

Connecticut Rep. Rob Simmons, who is challenging embattled Sen. Chris Dodd in 2010, has named a campaign manager for his race: former McCain man Jim Barnett. During the 2008 cycle, Barnett was the senator's New England regional director and oversaw McCain's win in the New Hampshire primary.

Julie Wadler has launched a new consulting firm, Arlington-based Comitatus Consulting. The firm will specialize in strategic uses of technology, social networking and new media. Comitatus is a sister company to Epiphany Productions, an event management and fundraising firm. "Whether it's raising money or communicating with your constituents, there's a whole world of technology out there that a lot of folks haven't gotten used to using," says Wadler, who started her career as deputy finance director for the NR CC. "It takes more than a web site to make money. You need to know how to use the new tools in a political way." Partnering with Wadler is Aaron Poe. He joined Epiphany Productions in 2005 and has a long background in politics and fundraising.
